The Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) is the governing body of rugby in Asia under the authority of the International Rugby Board. Founded in 1968 by eight charter nations, ARFU today has 26 members across Asia, stretching from the Jordan in the West to Japan in the East and from Mongolia in the North to Indonesia in the South. The vision of ARFU is "To create a sustainable, vibrant and competitive rugby culture for all stakeholders, which supports and develops the game in the Region". ARFU also supports regional and pan-Asian tournaments, including women's, men's, and junior competitions in both Rugby Sevens and fifteen-a-side rugby. ARFU is deeply committed to growing the game across the Region.

Japan was the biggest victims on the opening day at the Shanghai Sevens after Malaysia outplayed the defending series champions to register a shock 26-22 victory in Pool A competition on Saturday.

There will be an extra reason for teams to do well in the first ranking leg of the Asian Rugby Sevens Series in Shanghai this weekend (September 4-5) – that is grabbing the psychological high ground before the upcoming Asian Games in Guangzhou in November

Over the weekend of September 4th and 5th, the 2010 Shanghai Sevens will once again bring world class rugby to the city. The Shanghai Rugby FootballClub will play host once again with a few thousand spectators expected to come by to enjoy the action. For the second consecutive year, the ShanghaiSevens are proud hosts of the IRB Asian Sevens Series and will welcome an expanded roster of 12 international teams, 16 amateur club teams, 4 international women\'s teams, and 2 vets teams.
